# PaperCut (Extender)

> Manage the legacy PaperCut integration that uses the Nexudus PaperCut Extender, and move to PaperCut Bridge.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The PaperCut Extender is a legacy integration and is no longer supported. If you're setting up PaperCut for the first time, use [PaperCut Bridge](https://learn.nexudus.com/integrations/printing/papercut-bridge.md). If you still use the extender, move to PaperCut Bridge — see [Moving from the PaperCut extender](https://learn.nexudus.com/integrations/printing/papercut-bridge.md#moving-from-the-papercut-extender).

## Overview

The original **PaperCut** integration connects PaperCut MF or NG to Nexudus through the **Nexudus PaperCut Extender**, a program that runs on a Windows or Linux computer next to your PaperCut server. It sends customers and their printing credit to PaperCut, and brings their print jobs back to Nexudus to be charged.

It works with the same [pricing models](https://learn.nexudus.com/integrations/printing.md#choosing-how-to-charge-for-printing) as PaperCut Bridge.

## Settings

The settings are in **Settings → Integrations → PaperCut**. If your locations share one PaperCut server, they're managed from one location — switch to that location to change them.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Enable PaperCut integration.** | Turns the integration on or off. |
| **Download PaperCut Extender** | Downloads the extender for Windows or Linux. |
| **Server Address** / **Password** | The address of your PaperCut server, which the extender reads (leave blank for `localhost`, the same computer), and the password the extender uses with it. |
| **Printing Credit Type** | The printing credit customers print with. |
| **Print Usage Product** | The product customers are charged through per print. |
| **Location** | The location the integration is for, or **All locations**. |
| **New members registered can print for free by default.** / **New contacts registered can print for free by default.** | Gives new customers free printing. |
| **New members should be set as unrestricted users in PaperCut by default.** / **New contacts should be set as unrestricted users in PaperCut by default.** | Lets new customers print beyond their credit and be charged per print. |
| **Use Pincode as Access Card ID** | Lets customers release prints with their Nexudus PIN. |
| **Pad Printer Portal password to 8 characters** | Pads customers' PaperCut password (their PIN) with zeros to 8 characters. |
| **Enable Elatec print release readers.** | Lets customers release prints by holding their phone to an ELATEC TWN4 MultiTech 2 reader with the Passport app. |
| **Send PaperCut Welcome Email** / **Send Custom Welcome Email** | Emails customers when they're added to PaperCut, using PaperCut's email or one of your **Email Template**s. |
| **Audit Level** | How much detail the extender logs. To log fully for only some customers, enter their email addresses, separated by commas. Nexudus support may ask you to change this when investigating a problem. |

## How customers are added

The extender adds and removes PaperCut users every 15 minutes, as customers gain and lose printing access. To sync everyone straight away, select **Sync all customers**. Suspended customers are never added. If a customer has a company and an individual account with the same email address, they're added using the individual account.

Customers sign in to PaperCut with their email address and PIN, and release prints with their PIN — or with their phone, if you use ELATEC readers.
